The technology group Wärtsilä has delivered a navigation simulator and specific mathematical models to the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) in the city of Rauma, Finland. These will be used as an essential enabler in the Intelligent Shipping Technology Test Laboratory (ISTLAB) project, which aims at creating a technically precise testing environment for remotely controlled, autonomous vessels. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in the 4th quarter of 2019.

The Finnish scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech has successfully delivered its exhaust gas scrubber systems to semi-refrigerated gas tankers managed by the Danish shipping company Ultragas ApS.

In order to spread knowledge and foster collaboration in Finland and Sweden, the Fairway Forward seminar and think tank for green and smart shipping was organised on November 20th in Helsinki. The program included best practice case examples from each country and a panel discussion with top industry leaders and politicians. Both Finns and Swedes from different parts of the maritime sector were present in the audience.

The technology group Wärtsilä will engineer, supply, and install complete battery hybrid packages to two offshore supply vessels owned by the Norway-based operator Atlantic Offshore. The upgrading project will be carried out at the Fitjar shipyard in Norway. By converting the vessels to hybrid propulsion, the owners will benefit through more economical fuel consumption and a reduced environmental impact. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in June 2019.

The new Wasaline RoPax ferry, currently under construction at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) yard in Finland, will be fitted with the technology group Wärtsilä’s Nacos Platinum navigation and communication system.

The technology group Wärtsilä will supply a unique and patent-pending LNG fuel storage and supply system for two new trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs). The ships are being built by Keppel Offshore & Marine for Van Oord, the Dutch marine contractor. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in Q2 2019.

ABB secured its first contract for ABB Ability™ Tekomar XPERT for fleet of 55 vessels with Hamburg based ship manager CPO Containerschiffreederei (CCPO).
