The Finnish scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech has closed its largest deal so far and will deliver SOx scrubber systems for 12 vessels owned by Dampskibsselskabet Norden A/S.

Two 30-metre tall Rotor Sails have been installed onboard the product tanker vessel Maersk Pelican targeting a reduction in fuel cost and associated emissions on typical global shipping routes of 7-10%

Wärtsilä is building the Smart Technology Hub, a new centre of research, product development and production, in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. As of 2020, all of Wärtsilä’s functions and personnel in central Vaasa will transfer to the new hub, along with the logistics and maintenance workshop operations from Runsor.
As a part of the project, Wärtsilä will invest EUR 83 million in modern testing and production technology for the hub. The total investment in the Smart Technology Hub will be in the region of EUR 200 million, consisting of office and factory buildings, logistics and infrastructure.

TUI Cruises has brought forward inaugural sailings and the naming ceremony of new ship Mein Schiff 2 as it will be delivered by Meyer Turku ahead of schedule. TUI Cruises had planned the maiden voyage of Mein Schiff 2 to depart from Bremerhaven on March 24, 2019.

ABB Turbocharging is a key strategic partner for Cosco Shipping Lines Co., Ltd (Cosco Shipping Lines), with ABB turbochargers selected for all main and auxiliary engines across six 21,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) container ships being delivered for the Universe series by 2019. Hundreds of ABB turbochargers are in operation  across the extensive Cosco Shipping Lines fleet

The year 2020 is approaching along with the Sulphur cap regulation of 0.5%, putting pressure on maritime agents to decrease emissions – and to utilise new innovations for environmentally sound vessels and services in the marine industry. A major European container shipping company has ordered Wärtsilä’s hybrid exhaust gas cleaning equipment and retrofit services to its container vessels, worth EUR 170 million.

An autonomous ship model has been successfully tested in Aker Arctic’s ice model test laboratory in Helsinki, Finland. In the demonstration test the ship model was able to detect obstacles in the ice tank utilizing onboard sensors, maneuver around them without operator input and moor itself automatically to a target pier. The test was carried out in ice free waters.
