Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines to power four new LNG Carriers

The technology group Wärtsilä, through its joint venture company CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shanghai) Co (CWEC), has been contracted to deliver 16 engines for four new LNG carrier vessels being built at the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in China. The order was booked in August 2017.

Firming market despite poor outlook for the domestic grain harvest

After several years of poor demand in dry bulk shipping, the market is now showing significant growth on the demand side. The signs of a firmer market have been visible since the late summer, and the speed has been picking up ever since. Although grain Exports from Finland are likely to decline since up to 20% of the harvest will be lost due to extremely bad weather conditions, total demand in our trading area is likely to increase. Undoubtedly the reason for stronger demand is to be found in the good economic growth, which has finally also reached Finland.

M/v Meri on her first oceanographic expedition

Meriaura’s open deck cargo carriers ’Meri’ and ’Aura’ have been equipped with mobile, container based research facilities. The Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute SMHI are performing marine research with the vessels while the research vessel Aranda is under conversion. The contract consists of several expeditions, which requires efficient mobilization and demobilization of the SYKE’s research equipment on board. Meri and Aura’s dynamic position systems are utilized during sampling.

This is Harris Pye’s 17th office, with the network stretching from Brazil to Japan, North American and Canada to Australia and including major workshops in Wales, Brazil, Sharjah and Singapore

Havyard Power & Systems AS changes its name and wins a new contract with ESVAGT

Havyard is merging all its products in the segment Power, Automation and Navigation into a joint business area, Norwegian Electric Systems (NES). As part of this change, Havyard Power & Systems is also changing its name to Norwegian Control Systems AS (NCS), the company said in its press release.

Havyard Power & Systems, now Norwegian Control Systems, was established in 2007 and now celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The technology group Wärtsilä has acquired Guidance Marine Limited, a privately owned company with offices in the UK, Singapore and the USA. Guidance Marine is recognised as a technology leader in the marine industry for sensor solutions relating to dynamic positioning and other vessel control systems, such as collision avoidance and remote control operations.

Finland’s First Offshore Wind Farm Suited to Ice

Finland’s first offshore wind farm, and the world’s first offshore wind farm built for icy conditions, has commenced operation.

The Tahkoluoto demonstration installation includes 10 turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW each. The farm, located in the Gulf of Bothnia, the northern-most arm of the Baltic Sea, off Finland’s west coast, has an estimated annual power production of approximately 155GWh with average power production 43 percent of maximum capacity. The rotor hub height is approximately 90 meters and the rotor diameter 130 meters.

Wärtsilä to acquire Puregas Solutions

The technology group Wärtsilä has reached an agreement to acquire Puregas Solutions, the Sweden based provider of turnkey biogas upgrading solutions. Puregas is a leading player in its field with subsidiary companies in Germany, Denmark, the U.K., and the USA. The company utilises a unique CApure process to convert raw biogas to biomethane and renewable natural gas. The transaction is valued (enterprise value) at SEK 280m (EUR 29m) with an additional maximum sum of SEK 70m (EUR 7.3m) to be paid based on the performance of the business in the coming year.

Finnish maritime innovators Fleetrange and KNL Networks have successfully pioneered in providing cost-efficient Arctic situational awareness using a unique combination of IoT, Cloud and 3G/HF hybrid telecommunications technology. The solution includes up-to-date weather-, ice-, ship tracking and sensor data and sustains critical email communications in areas where satellite communications are expensive, unreliable or non-existent.
