Sunstone Ships inc. to build four new expedition vessels

Sunstone Ships, inc. and china merchants industry holdings co., ltd. have signed a Framework Agreement for the construction of four expedition vessels with options for an additional six vessels.
CMIH has also entered into an agreement with I.S.Mäkinen Oy, Finland, one of the leading contractors of cabin and interior public spaces for cruise vessels. Mäkinen will establish a cabin assembly plant and interior workshop at the shipyard’s facilities, and will be responsible for all interior spaces on the new builds.

CSSC and Wärtsilä establish new Electrical & Automation joint venture

Technology group Wärtsilä and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) have signed a new joint venture company agreement. The new joint venture, to be known as CSSC Wärtsilä Electrical & Automation Co Ltd (CWE&A), will focus on the growing Chinese electrical & automation (E&A) market, especially for high-tech ship applications. The joint venture company is expected to be fully operational before the middle of 2017.

In mid-February, Lamor Corporation demonstrated an innovative new way to recover oil by deploying the Lamor Marine Oil Spill Sweeper LMOS 15 Speed Skimming system in Halifax, Canada in cooperation with their local representative, Griffin Engineered Systems, for leading Canadian response organizations and companies, represented by Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC), Canadian Coast Guard, Department of Defense (DND), ALERT and RMI Marine.

Updates to the European Union’s fleet register will soon be available in real time, following the adoption of a new regulation by the European Commission on 6 February. The regulation makes it easier for EU member states to update the fleet register, while giving the Commission the necessary tools to crosscheck the data that member states submit.

European Commission about to fund 10 new blue growth projects

The European Commission has selected six ’blue career’ and four ’blue labs’ projects for funding under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). Grant agreements are being prepared for signature.

The new ’blue career’ projects will work towards enhancing career opportunities in the maritime economy, while the ’blue labs’ projects will focus on young researchers helping them to bring research results to the market.
