GAC Sweden AB awarded Jumbo a contract for the transportation and installation of an underwater restaurant. The restaurant consists of an acrylic dome on a steel structure, has a weight of 410 metric tons and is the second one of its kind. The assembly yard of this sensitive cargo is in New Zealand, where Jumbo will pick it up beginning of 2016 and transport it to Huravalhi Island, The Maldives.

At The Maldives, Jumbo will moor the transport vessel alongside a shallow coral reef where the restaurant will be lowered onto pre-installed concrete piles at a depth of about 10 meters. The project preparation and execution is aiming at having the smallest possible impact on the sensitive environment.

Captain Per Thörnblom, Group Project Logistics Manager from GAC Sweden comments that they have found a perfect partner in Jumbo to execute this project. He adds, “We are happy to work with a group of motivated and skilled people within the Jumbo organization and have full trust in the hardware that was contracted. It is the right ship for the right task.”

The Restaurant

The restaurant offers deluxe resort dining in compelling surroundings. A stunning view of macro fish, stingrays and even sharks will be presented to its 24 guests. For special occasions, it will also be possible to host wedding ceremonies or to transform the restaurant into a honeymoon suite.
