Joint development results in new design for Arc7 LNG Carrier

Aker Arctic, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Novatek have jointly developed a state-of-the-art icebreaking LNG carrier to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) year-round along the Northern Sea Route. DSME has now signed shipbuilding contracts with Sovcomflot and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines for the construction of six Arc7 LNG carriers based on the new design.

ESL Shipping first in Finland to use 100% renewable liquefied biogas in maritime transport

ESL Shipping, the leading carrier of dry bulk cargoes in the Baltic region, today announced that its vessel m/s Viikki was fueled in Raahe, Finland with 100% renewable liquefied biogas (LBG) to transport iron ore for the Swedish steel company SSAB. This marks the first time when 100% renewable LBG is used in maritime transport in Finland. LBG reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 85 per cent compared to fossil fuels. The biogas was supplied by Nordic gas sector and energy market expert Gasum.

World’s largest and most efficient krill trawler to be designed by Wärtsilä

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide the ship design for a new, state-of-the-art krill fishing vessel, which when delivered will be the largest and most efficient of its kind in the world. The ship design order was placed by Shanghai Chonghe Marine Industry (CMI) in March.The approximately 140 metres long vessel will operate in the krill fishing grounds of Antarctica, and will be at sea for extended periods of time. It will be fitted with the latest fishing equipment, with onboard processing capabilities for high quality krill products. The Wärtsilä design will incorporate both high operational efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

Wärtsilä solutions chosen to upgrade efficiency and environmental performance of Norwegian fishing vessel

The technology group Wärtsilä is to supply a 12-year old fishing vessel with a Wärtsilä 32 engine, a NOx Reducer (SCR) selective catalytic reduction system, and a shaft generator. The new engine will replace an existing one from another supplier onboard the ‘Brennholm’, a 75 metre long vessel owned by Norway-based operator Brennholm AS. The installation will take place at the Orskov Yard in Denmark at the end of 2020. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in November 2019.
