Ship Missing in South Atlantic

A South Korean-operated very large ore carrier Stellar Daisy has gone missing in the South Atlantic off Uruguay.
One of the ship’s 24 crewmembers sent a text message on Friday saying the vessel was taking on water.

Pension fund accepts DSME debt proposal

Korean shipbuilder’s main bondholder ends weeks of wrangling to back rescheduling plans.

DSME’s main bondholder, South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS), has finally given its backing to efforts to keep the struggling shipbuilder afloat.

It has agreed to the debt rescheduling measures proposed by the state-run Korea Development Bank (KDB) led creditors, reports the Yonhap news agency.

Wärtsilä propulsion solution selected for innovative new fishing vessel

The technology group Wärtsilä has been awarded the contract to provide the propulsion machinery for a new purse seine fishing trawler ordered by Strand Senior AS, a subsidiary of Strand Havfiske AS based in Norway. The vessel will be built at the Karstensen Skibsvaerft shipyard in Denmark. The Wärtsilä order was booked in March 2017.

Wärtsilä to provide solutions and maintenance for Höegh FSRU and LNG vessels

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide both equipment and maintenance for FSRU and LNG carrier vessels of Norway based operator, Höegh LNG. The orders were booked in the first quarter of 2017.

Two new 170,000 m3 LNG carrier vessels being built for Höegh LNG at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyards in Korea will each be powered by four Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines. There is an option for a further three vessels in the SHI series.

Last week Langh Tech’s closed loop scrubber process won first place in the Green Ship Technology category of awards at the Green Ship Technology Conference in Copenhagen. Companies were nominated for recent accomplishments, from the period of 1st January 2016 to 31st January 2017.

World Fuel Services starts supplying marine fuel at the Sunoco Logistics Nederland terminal, Texas

World Fuel Services (WFS) is pleased to announce that its exclusive agreement to supply marine fuel at the Sunoco Logistics Nederland Terminal in Texas, is now fully operational with effect from March 2017.

The exclusive agreement means that WFS can now supply RMG 380 and MGO 0.1% Sulfur ‘ex-pipe’ and concurrent to vessels while loading and discharging cargo.

Seaspan trusts MacGregor for a series of container stowage system upgrades to improve fleet efficiency

Seaspan Corporation, world’s leading independent owner, operator and manager of containerships, has placed an order with MacGregor for cargo system update of its eleven 10,000 TEU container vessels. Seven of the ships were returned to Seaspan from the bankrupt South Korean container carrier Hanjin Shipping and four of the ships are in final stage at the shipyard.

Alfa Laval AFEM for Smit inert gas systems produces significant fuel savings

The Alfa Laval Automatic Fuel Efficiency Module (AFEM) is a new modification for reducing the fuel consumption of Alfa Laval Smit Combustion inert gas systems. It does so by ensuring the inert gas that keeps cargo safe during offloading is only generated in the exact amounts required. In a two-year pilot project, the AFEM allowed Italian shipping company Navigazione Montanari S.p.A. to achieve an average fuel savings of 30%.
