DNV GL is pleased to announce the completion of the LNGreen joint industry project, which worked to develop a state-of-the-art next-generation LNG carrier. The LNGreen joint industry project brought together experts from DNV GL and industry specialists from GTT, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the shipowner GasLog. Each of the project partners contributed their unique know-how and experience, to develop tomorrow’s LNG carrier using the latest technology, within the bounds of existing shipbuilding methods. The vessel concept has a significantly improved environmental footprint, a higher level of energy efficiency, as well as an improved boil-off rate and cargo capacity, making it much better suited to future trading patterns than existing vessels.

Wärtsilä Ship Power, joka tänään on nimetty uudelleen Marine Solutions -liiketoiminnaksi, aikoo muokata organisaatiotaan, toimintaansa ja resurssejaan meriteollisuuden heikon globaalin markkinatilanteen vuoksi.

Suunnitelmat vaikuttavat Wärtsilä Marine Solutionsin koko henkilöstöön ja kaikkiin toimintoihin maailmanlaajuisesti. Uudelleenjärjestelystä johtuva työpaikkojen vähennystarve on noin 600, joista noin 160 on Suomessa. Osa vähennystarpeesta toteutetaan eläkejärjestelyjen avulla.

Näillä toimilla Wärtsilä pyrkii saavuttamaan noin 40 miljoonan euron vuotuiset säästöt. Säästöt toteutuvat asteittain vuoden 2015 kolmannen neljänneksen alusta alkaen ja vaikuttavat täysimääräisesti vuoden 2016 loppuun mennessä.

Uudelleenjärjestelyyn liittyvät kertaluonteiset kustannukset arvioidaan olevan noin 25-30 miljoonaa euroa. 



The South Korean government will build a centre to undertake research and development in the construction of offshore vessels. Such vessels are the flagship products of the country’s three biggest shipbuilders – Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering – and the government wants to help the trio to maintain their market position.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the centre was held in Geoje in South Gyeongsang province on 10 July. Among the 300 people at the ceremony was the minister for oceans and fisheries, Yoo Ki-june. In November 2013, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries signed a memorandum of understanding with the province and the centre. Geoje offered a 235,541 m² plot for the development while the ministry will invest KRW25.2 billion (USD22.3 million) in the construction, which is expected to be completed in February 2017.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won contracts for its new lattice boom cranes (LBC) from Merkers Offshore, successfully negotiated and procured through Marine Commerce in Singapore. Four 20015-6045 LBC cranes will be installed on two offshore maintenance liftboats – equipped with 80m jack-up legs – under construction at Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industries in China. Delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.
