Vard Holdings Limited (“VARD”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, is pleased to announce that it has secured new contracts for the design and construction of two Offshore Subsea Construction Vessels (“OSCV”) for a new customer, Dubai-based Topaz Energy and Marine (“Topaz”).
Specially developed for crane operations and light subsea construction with intervention duties, the vessels will be of VARD 3 08 design, measuring a total length of 98.1 meters with a beam of 20 meters. Designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway, and with hulls to be constructed at Vard Tulcea in Romania, delivery is scheduled from Vard Brattvaag in Norway in 3Q 2017 and 4Q 2017 respectively. The aggregate value of the two contracts exceeds USD 100 million.

France has agreed to sell two Mistral helicopter carriers to Egypt for 950 million euros ($1.06 billion) after their sale to Russia was canceled in August, French officials said on Wednesday.

Pietarilaisen PortNewsin mukaan OSK-ryhmään kuuluva Viipurin telakka on allekirjoittanut Aker Arcticin kanssa sopimuksen konseptilisenssistä ja teknisen projektin suunnittelutyöstä OAO Yamal LNG:n FSU-yhtiö Atomflotilta 30.4.2015 rahtaamaan Aker ARC 124 jäänmurtajaan.

Arvoltaan 3,6 miljoonan euron sopimuksen mukaan suunnittelun tulee olla valmiina helmikuussa 2016 ja laivan puolestaan valmiina telakalta marraskuussa 2018. Aluksen pituus on 84,3 metriä, leveys 21,3 metriä ja syväys 6,5 metriä. Se varustetaan neljällä 2,5 MW kääntyvällä ruoripotkurilla. Jäänmurtokyvyn tulee ylittää 1,5 metriä, mikä vastaa Sabettan rakenteilla olevan uuden LNG-terminaalin olosuhteita.

Island Offshore in Norway has confirmed that it is delyaing delivery of all but one of its newbuilds.

Its newbuilding programme includes four vessels to be delivered from Vard Brevik. Island Offshore has agreed with the yard to delay delivery of all the newbuilding vessels with the exception of Island Defender, which will be delivered in January 2016 as planned.

The first purely battery-driven car and passenger ferry Ampere has won the Ship Efficiency Award in the category Environmental Technology. The award recognizes innovative solutions which have contributed to reducing the environmental impact of shipping operations.

The 80 metre long DNV GL classed vessel is one of three ferries operated by the Norwegian shipping company Norled between Lavik and Oppedal and is able to carry 120 cars and 360 passengers. “Ampere is trading in Sognefjord with 100 per cent regularity and consumes 50 per cent less energy compared with a traditional diesel ferry on the same route. It has proven to be a huge success for Norled,” said Claes Skat-Rørdam of award sponsor Hempel on behalf of the judges.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has developed a new 40ft flat rack loose lashings storage system that is designed to make better use of available deck space.

”An overall trend for twistlocks, stackers and midlocks is their weight reduction,” explains Perttu Jokinen, Lashing Portfolio Manager, Cargo Stowage and Securing Systems, MacGregor. ”This can often lead to the maximum volume of a storage bin being reached before its maximum payload. Therefore, we have looked carefully at capacity in terms of volume when designing our new storage bins and flat racks.”
